is building a new model for creative projects throughout San Francisco.

By transforming vacant retail space into temporary studios, [working] creates a new way for artists to realize large scale projects in direct dialogue with the public.

Through close partnership with property owners, we are building a network of shared interest in the future of San Francisco as a center for art and cultural leadership. As an organization, we provide the logistical support, project management, partnerships, and communication to make clear and relevant points of connection between the work artists are doing and the public environment we all share.

Each space we manage is utilized from a perspective of its place in the city as well as the opportunities and challenges they present artists ready to adapt their practice in a large scale, highly visible and public context. While containing individual artist projects, [working] spaces together illustrate the broader function of Problem Library as an organization rethinking the use of existing resources, both public and private, for the advancement of city cultural infrastructure and support for human creative development.

We hope the work we do can create a path of shared benefit between private interests and the public good through trust and good will.
